3/4 Year Update

Published On 2025, 09/16

This is a long overdue update on my life and projects in 2025.

Oh boy, it’s been a while since I last posted an update here. A lot has happened in my life and projects over the past few months, and I think it’s about time I started to update this website.

Life Updates

2025 has been somewhat mundane but chaotic at the same time. I have to be honest, the first half the year has been me trying to footing again after the big changes in 2024. I’ve been trying to find a balance between work, personal projects, and leisure. It’s been a challenge, but I’m slowly getting there. In that time, I took on more responsibilities at work after my supervisor left, which has been both rewarding and exhausting. I’ve also been travelling a around to a few places like my hometown in Malaysia, visiting my girlfriend in Denmark for her summer exchange, and a short trip to Portugal with the boys. It’s been great to see new places and experience different cultures, but it also made me realise how much I miss the comfort of routine.

Personal Life

On the personal front, recently, I’ve been trying to get back into the gym to improve on my physical health. It used to be a big part of my life, and I want to make it one again. I remember in my 3rd year of university, I had structure and discipline, and I want to bring that back into my life. During the months between April to July, I was stressed and neglected my own physical health and mental well-being. I lost confidence in myself and my abilities, which affected my productivity and motivation. However, I’ve been working on rebuilding that confidence by fulfilling small promises with myself and trying to finding joy in the little things again. Recently, I’ve been diving back into the gym alongside other things like learning new skills and meeting my friends more often.

Work Updates

Work has been a rollercoaster ride. After my supervisor left, I had to step up and take on more responsibilities. It was daunting at first, but I learned a lot in the process. I’ve been working on some exciting projects that have challenged me and helped me grow professionally. However, it hasn’t been without its challenges. There were times when I felt overwhelmed and doubted my abilities. But with the support of my colleagues and friends, I managed to push through those tough times. I’ve also been trying to improve my work-life balance by setting boundaries and prioritising self-care. It’s a work in progress, but I’m getting there.

Project Updates

On the project front, I can’t lie, I’ve been slacking a bit. My personal projects took a backseat as I focused on work and personal life. However, I’m determined to get back on track. At the start of the year, I started re-learing React to improve my foundations. I also started reading some books programming books that my friend recommended and it’s been a good revision for me. One that I especially liked was this book called “Learning HTTP/2: A Practical Guide for Beginners”. This book really reinforced my understanding in HTTP and I am confident it wil help me in my career progression. Recently, I started and completed a link shortener project that I am really proud of and I hope to use this to continue my project-making momentum. I’ve been brainstorming new ideas and planning out how to execute them. The goal is to have at least one personal project completed by the end of the year and I hope to use Next.js for it.

Looking Ahead

For the rest of the year, I want to focus on maintaining a healthy work-life balance, continuing to improve my physical health, and getting back into the groove of personal projects. I also want to make more time for myself. I’m excited about the possibilities that lie ahead and I’m looking forward to what the rest of 2025 has in store for me.
